Escape room 2017 and escape room 2019

How did this happen? I found the 2017 film on Netflix and assumed it was the 2019 film of the same name starting Deborah Ann Woll (true blood, daredevil). I was sorely mistaken, the acting felt so wooden, writing was poor and the deaths definitely don't ratify watching this through they're so uninventive. I'm sure the 2019 film will be much better after but my main question is how did this happen? A film of the same name but separated by bigger budgets and bigger actors. How does a film with the exact same premise get made and so close in years?
